Couponing 101: Coupon Etiquette

In today's class we will discuss being able to be an effective couponer through the use of Coupon Etiquette. Your mama always told you to be polite and that it will go a long way and the same can be said about couponing. When you are polite and respectful to your cashier and management you will typically be able to resolve questions and issues they may have with regards to coupons. This has happened several times to myself over the recent years. Here are some tips of how to show proper coupon etiquette.

• Have your coupons organized prior to handing over to the cashier
• Have ALL FREE coupons such as BOGO FREE ones together
• DON'T BE FRAUDULENT, Only Use Coupons for What You Have
• Don't ABUSE the use of Competitor's coupons to keep it alive and going. Some stores limit the number of competitor's coupons you may use while others don't. For those that don't, be careful not to over use. When stores accept competitor coupons they are providing the loss in revenue from themselves. There is no reimbursement from the competitor. It is great when competitor coupons are usable as it adds to our savings so lets keep the savings around and be cautious and wise to using competitor coupons.
• Smile, Be Positive and Kind to your Cashier, Store Employees and Management, IT IS KEY.(Remember our past lesson: Feel Good About Couponing)

Two New Smart Ones Coupons

KMART Coupon Policy

Yesterday, on our Facebook Group page (not a member please join as another way to stay aware of the latest deals and greatest steals) and Facebook Fan Page we had some questions regarding KMart's coupon policy and usage regarding printable coupons. Here is the information obtained directly from KMart regarding their coupon policies:

Kmart’s Print-at-Home Internet Coupon Acceptance Policy. Effective March 1, 2009 :

"Kmart will accept industry-standard, secure print-at-home coupons. This will provide additional benefits and incentives to our customers to help them save their money at Kmart. Due to the continuing shift in utilizing online facilities, allowing the redemption of print at home coupons is becoming a larger more important aspect to the budget wise customer. But there is a significant risk in fraudulent alerted coupons. It is critical that the following guidelines be understood and followed to identify coupons that will not be accepted by the Kmart register operators.

 Kmart can only accept print-at-home coupons if they scan properly at checkout. Legitimate printable coupons are delivered using special software designed to print a properly rendered barcode on the coupon and limit the number of coupons printed. If the coupon dos not scan properly it cannot be accepted.  Kmart will not accept coupons for more than about 75% of a product’s value. For example, a $2 off coupon for a product that sells for $2.25 is unlikely to be legitimate. If there are exceptions, Kmart is usually provided advance notice by the manufacturer. Coupons will be rejected if they appear distorted or blurry, altered in any way, or are obvious duplicates. Kmart will not accept ” FREE product” (no purchase required) print-at-home coupons. It is currently an industry practice not to produce print-at-home manufacturer’s coupons. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced, regarding our coupons."
