Tide Laundry Detergent: Could it Cause Cancer???

Wow! I cannot believe what I just heard on the News. According to the New York Times, Tide Laundry Detergent products could expose you to a cancer causing chemical. Its being reported that the Tide Laundry products contain a product called "dioxane". The EPA has stated that this chemical may cause cancer in lab rats. There are several national health and environmental agencies asking Procter and Gamble to change the formula in Tide Detergents.

I will be anxious to see how this story and information continues to spread. From what I understand P&G authorities are stating that the "Dioxane" levels are well below the risk factor. What will you? Will you continue to buy and use Tide Laundry Detergent?

  1. Please - I live in California where even STARBUCKS is required to post warning signs that coffee can cause cancer, so can the artificial sweeteners, so can the SUN and fluoride and bbq meats and on and on and on.

    1. Good Point Kathleen! there are so many chemicals used in everything nowadays, that unless you grow it, raise it, or make it yourself you are getting cancer causing agents!

  2. How were the lab rats exposed to the Tide? Did they drink it? Did they roll around in it? I have trouble believing that wearing clothes that were washed in Tide would expose anyone to a risk of contracting cancer.

    1. Pat, that has actually been a question that has been rolling around in my head all day. Did they was a blanket in Tide, rinse it, dry it and then let the rat lay on it, NOT eat it?

  3. Yeah I have to agree. If you ingest it rather than have it come into contact with your skin then your body is going to react to it differently. For example, cleaning chemicals, if it touches my skin I'm fine but if I ingest it I could get sick or even worse, die. I would like to know how the tests were conducted on the rats.

  4. If you're ingesting laundry detergent, bleach, any kind of cleaner directly from the bottle, Darwin theory applies. Rather than reporting a stupid and vague fact like that, maybe they should release the actual testing methods. Guess what!? If one drinks Draino, you might get really dead fast and just bypass the cancer from drinking gasoline. Not too worried :)
