Cruising: A True Vacation Deal

With all of the news in the last few weeks about the Costa Concordia cruise ship incident many individuals who have never cruised before are more leary than ever on taking a cruise for a vacation. However, as a repeat cruiser let me tell you how GREAT a value a cruise is for a vacation and yes they are safe.

I have cruised on several different cruise lines including Disney, Carnival, Norwegian and Princess. Recently, my husband and I cruised on the Carnival Legend from Tampa through the Gulf of Mexico and western Caribbean. We had not been on a vacation in some time do to having our three children and we were so excited to be getting away once again.

We were not dissappointed but did notice a few changes compared to our last cruise. Still, while a few services appeared trimmed back some the value can't be beat. We are realizing this even more now as we are looking into a vacation with the twins to Disney. OUCH!

So why is a cruise such a value?

1) It is an inclusive vacation
When I say this I mean that your main entertainment, food and lodging is all included. There are some extras such as soft drinks, alcoholic beverages and off-ship shore excursions but you have the choice as to how much extra you want to spend, if any. In many cases, you can find cruises ranging from $50-$75 per day. How often can you find a 4 star+ hotel rate for that per night and if you do does it include unlimited meals and entertainment?

2) See Multiple Destinations without Adding Travel Costs
Each cruise schedule is different but how often is it you can visit 3 or 4 cities in different nations or at minimum states and not have to pay for additional travel costs? On our last cruise we visited Cozumel, Mexico; Belize City, Belize; Roatan, Honduras and Grand Cayman Island and never had to pay for a train ticket or plane ticket or rent a car. While we enjoyed our entertainment and slept we traveled smoothly along from destination to destination

Right now many of the cruise lines are trying to secure new bookings amidst the Concordia dissaster as they all have seen decreases in recent weeks. So if you are considering a cruise now is a GREAT time to do so. Here are some deals/opportunities to look at.
