As a meteorologist and having lived through the devastating tornadoes of April 2011, I am more than ever an advocate for having emergency food supplies ready and on hand. No matter where you live you could be impacted by a natural disaster that will keep you from being able to use your everyday conveniences such as your stove, oven and refrigerator. During the tornado even of April 2011, that impacted much of the southeast and especially north Alabama, we were without electricity for nearly 84 hours. That meant no stove, no oven, no restaurants and no refrigerator. What ever could be kept cold in an ice chest and grilled on the pit or eaten cold is what we had. Would have been nice to have some ready-to-eat emergency food on hand.
