Thank you all so much for the sweet emails about my husband's doctors appointment yesterday. As many of you know, he has been very sick for the past week. If you are new to our site, please CLICK HERE to read about the diagnosis and road to recovery journey.
Yesterday we spent over 3 hours at the doctors office having more tests run and just discussing this illness and how things will be moving forward. Dale has some thoughts to share with you, but I also want to tell you some facts that we were told!
1) Strep A in the blood stream can be fatal if left untreated. To show the significance of this the doctor used this analogy: Someone with staph infection has a 5% fatality rate. On the other hand, someone with Strep A in the blood stream, like Dale, has a 45% fatality rate.
2) I asked the doctor if this would have went untreated, how long would we have had to get medical assistance or would it have taken to run its course. I said, days, weeks, months??? The doctors response was HOURS!!!!!! We are so blessed and thankful that we went to the hospital at the time that we did~
3) Thanks to all of our family, friends, church family, and Facebook fans for being so patient, loving and understanding during this time for our family!
Here are a few words from Dale who is at home recovering!!!!!
I would like to say thank you to all of you that have sent kind words and prayers over the last week. I have not said much as I just have not felt like being involved with the Internet or anything at all~ But, I wanted to tell you how thankful I am for what you have already done and continue to do for our family!
Words cannot express my gratitude to my wife and the medical community. First, my wife for forcing me to go to the Emergency Room, and for the medical community for taking such good care of me.
Just yesterday, I realized the severity of the illness. It was put very plainly to me how Strep-A bacteria and my white blood cell count exceeding 40,000 was a very dangerous situation. I am very thankful to spend quality time with my family, my children, my wife, and my friends; as I learned how close of call this was.
The road to recovery is going to be a slow one. To date, I still feel very weak and very tired! Throughout each day there are slight improvements. But, we have been told that it will be weeks before we notice a significant improvement. While my blood count continues to decline, it is still above normal; even after a weeks worth of antibiotics.
I hope to be able to return to work and my normal activities very soon!
Thank you again so much for your thoughts and prayers!
As I continue to feel better, I will have my wife, provide updates...

Jennifer...this exact same thing happened to my brother-in-law a little over a year ago...there was one night we thought we may lose him...super scary! Brian was on a trip (by himself) in California when he got sick and was hospitalized for 10 days before he got to come home...but was still pretty sick for about a month after. So glad Dale is feeling better! And great article in the paper :)
ReplyDeleteSo scary. Glad he is feeling a bit better nowadays! Continued prayers for your family.
